Invite the Forest is a speculative design project which poses the existence of shoe extensions which resonate at the Hz that mycorrhizal fungi use to communicate and can therefore communicate simple messages, through fungi, to the trees.

These extensions are set to resonate at a hz which sends positive or “inviting” messages through the soil to the fungi to the tree roots and encourages clonal trees to grow towards the sound of the shoes.

On a human timescale forests do not move or migrate, but on the timescale of trees they do travel. With the onslaught of climate change many forest habitats are becoming warmer and dryer on an accelerated timescale which forests are not adapted to survive. Humans do not have the insights that come with living at the timescale of forests, but they are able to model climatic change and invite the forest along the most direct path to climatic safety.
